868-BACK is out now, new things we’ve been making in Usual June, and more!

868-BACK IS 868-HERE!

Last week we released 868-BACK, the latest game in Michael Brough’s extensive catalog of games. 868-BACK is a computer-hacking roguelike strategy game inspired by dungeon crawlers — but the dungeons are computer servers, and your weapons are illicit software tools. Use hacking powers to fight enemies, steal the servers’ data, and face increasingly nasty situations before being disconnected (again!) by the richest corporations on earth.

There’s even a 10% OFF launch discount until June 4th!

Here’s a launch-week message from Michael

I’m writing this in the morning of the 28th. 868-BACK will be released today. By the time you read this, it will have been out for just a day. This is the time for the game to speak for itself. I can talk about my journey with it later.

So, I will just answer the one question that will be most useful to people.

Do you have any advice for new players?

Just explore the world, try to survive and get as far as you can. Build up a sense of how much headroom you have before trying to score points. The challenge of getting a high score is very deep, but there’s a lot of game here before you’re at that point. You can be a greedy hacker once you have the basics down.

Michael also wrote a blog post about the 868-CREW that worked on the game. You can read it here!

The Secret Lives of Games- 868-BACK Style

The Secret Lives of Games podcast has been featuring Michael Brough and his work all year with their series, All Systems Brough. To mark the launch of 868-BACK, they did a full interview with Michael himself!

They chat about Michael’s journey with 868-BACK from start to launch, his approaches to making art, and much, much more!

Usual June- Fen Harbor Rapid Transit

Usual June development has been full speed ahead, or, you could say, rapid! There are so many cool things being added to the game on a daily basis, and we can’t wait to show you more over the next few months.

Recently, the team has been working on building some of the train scenes that play out as June explores Fen Harbor with her friends. Whether June is heading to the cemetery, the library, or elsewhere in the city, you can always (mostly?) rely on Fen Harbor’s perfectly-adequately-paced public transportation system.
