Announcing TUNIC by Andrew Shouldice
TUNIC is about a tiny fox in a big world. You arrive alone on the shores of an overgrown land, someplace you don’t belong. Explore the wilderness, discover spooky ruins, and fight terrible creatures from long ago.
TUNIC is an action-adventure full of secrets and slumbering threats, featuring an original atmospheric soundscape by Power Up Audio (Darkest Dungeon, Crypt of the Necrodancer) and Lifeformed (Dustforce).
Finji is publishing TUNIC (previously known as Secret Legend) on PC, Mac, Linux, and console in 2018.
And here’s the note from us:
We first saw TUNIC over two years ago, after we met Andrew at one of these big… show-things through a mutual friend. Back then it was called Secret Legend, and it wasn’t really a game yet, although it did have many of the things that still shine through now - a beautiful little world, a determined fox, and tight, hectic combat.
We fell in love with it right away and emailed Andrew a few times with thoughts and feedback. We weren’t sure where the game was going exactly, but Andrew was gracious, easy to talk to, and interesting. We thought this would turn out to be a cool game, wished the team good luck, and went off to ship Overland First Access and Night in the Woods.
As luck would have it, we were able to reconnect, and now we’re honored to be presenting Andrew’s project to the world at large.
Being a developer and a publisher is kind of weird. There’s a lot of overlap, and a lot of tradeoffs, but ultimately publishing is not something that we have to do. It’s something that we want to do, and that we enjoy doing, and that we get a lot of satisfaction from, but like… we can make our own games. We have a pretty OK track record in this regard. So it takes a certain kind of project and a certain kind of creator to pull us away from our own work, even for a little bit, to invest ourselves in someone else’s game.
Night in the Woods was one of those kinds of games. TUNIC is too. Teams like these and games like these are rare. Y’all are in for a treat, and we can’t wait until you get to play it with us.
