NOTE: We have some promising candidates so we have moved forward to the art test phase for this position, and will not be reviewing any more new submissions. Thank you!

Overland is a turn-based survival game where generated characters go on a road trip across a post-apocalyptic North America. Our previous animator is too busy with her new full-time gig and school (congrats!!), so we’re looking for another collaborator to help us out.

We have about 10-20 human / dog animations and roughly the same number of weird monster animations to be completed over the next few months. We also need help cleaning up our existing animation set and updating our rigs.

We’re especially interested in producing believable, subtle animations for the human characters. We are looking for literal, uncomplicated and straightforward acting, as opposed to overwrought or theatrical acting. More Ghibli style than Pixar or Dreamworks style.

Overland has a very set style and direction already, so a lot of this gig will be executing on a direction that we’ve already picked - there may not be a lot of creative input in terms of broad style choices, but we’re still looking forward to finding a collaborator who likes to solve problems, especially in game animation terms (we have to perform this action, have it look believable, but can only take this many frames, what do we do there, etc).

We’re looking for someone experienced who can integrate into a Maya- and Unity3D-based workflow. We have a reasonable budget and can arrange to compensate hourly or by asset. Finji has hired POC, women, and students in the past and will continue to do so in the future, so we strongly encourage applicants from under-represented backgrounds to apply for this job. We may conduct a paid animation test but could skip that step if we find the right portfolio.

Local to Grand Rapids or Los Angeles would be pretty fun but not a strict requirement. We are used to remote collaborations and run Slack, Asana, Hangouts, etc. So distance is ok.

If you are interested please email hello@finji.co, include the word “animation” in the subject line, and include a link to an online portfolio or demo reel in the message body.
